  • Flasher relay

I am looking for a flasher relay for my 79xs1100sf. Seem hard to find and expensive. What other years and models work so I can expand my search. I found I have the 2 prong.
    Thanks,
    Tim

A 2 prong car flasher will work fine, only thing is you will lose your self cancelling signals. Any auto parts will have one. I recommend an electronic 2 prong flasher over the regular load dependant type.

I believe the only way you will get the self-cancelling feature back is with an OEM flasher unit. Now I'm no electrical guy (and I am sure some will chime in) but I think the self-cancelling feature is in two places, the timer in the speedo and the flasher unit. So, without an OEM flasher you are missing half of your self-cancelling feature.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Tim, you should be able to get a self cancel OEM 3 prong flasher from member Andreas.

            Hi Tim,
            what they all said,
the stocker is the ONLY flasher that'll work with the self-cancelling system AND it needs the stock 27Watt bulbs before it'll flash.
Take a second mortgage to buy a new one or hope that Andreas has a used one.

Yes, Andreas is hooking me up with one. Hopefully It will solve the problem. If not, I will deal with it. I'm not used to turn signals in the first place, so to have them is a big deal. hahaha The other day when I was trying to fit the hard bags they stopped working altogether!! It was all three wires in the handlebar switch, what a pain to solder.

                T/Signals

There are several items in this system that allow the signals to cancel other than the flasher. But the oem flasher has to be in working order to be able to diagnose it.

I have been lucky on one occasion by removing the cover off of an oem flasher and filing the two contacts that look like ignition points.
