  • Oil pump torque

Would anyone happen to have any torque specs for the oil pump I tried the search function, Google, and didn't see anything in the clymer book, but it seems info on the pump is scarce.

No need........just tighten it down against the gasket.

For the 3 oil pump mounting bolts I would use 14 ft/lb and blue loc-tite.
      2H7 (79) owned since '89

        Hey Brant,

I don't remember any gasket, just a nice O-ring, which should be replaced of course!?

        Hey Coolbkr,

Did you follow the link I gave you to download the service and user manuals in PDF from Catatonic Bug's website???? You would have found the torque specs there as well!

            Take it from me...
If those little bolts don't get properly tightened,
it can really ruin a 2500 mile trip to Colorado.

Yup.. Clean and loc-tite them no matter what you end up torquing them to. Those are 3 pretty dang important screws.

Sorry we had to find that out with you, Bob....

                  Tod,
I learned 2 very valuable life truths the day that happened-

                  1) Yamaha built an incredable engine when they built the 11.
The fact that my engine dropped the pump, (while spinning 6500 rpm & 120
mph), almost shut down, restarted twice, then drove another 5 miles into town at 35 mph w/o locking up, was amazing. But then, when there was no damage found and the pan and oil was put back in, to run flawlessly for another 40,000 miles was a real testament to Yamaha engineering.

                  2) I was very fortunate to have good friends (like you) that day to help me.
I'll never forget how you, Cody, Bohn, Rod and Miles all rallied around to help me. I'll never forget Rod agreeing to let me ride bitch on the back of his Wing for the next 2 days (despite the ribbing I took for it! Lol.) I'll never forget Cody coming to the rescue with a truck and a trailer. I'll never forget Miles letting me ride that last 50 miles on his 11 while he drove the truck so I could enjoy that (he even paid for the gas! Wouldn't let me pay!) Rod, for buying me a steak dinner that night at the dude ranch.

Oh... and I will NEVER forget how Wildkat offered to drop everything and fly me out a part. That kind gesture... really blew me away. Thank you, Kat.

Again... I'll always be grateful for those life lessons.
That old Maxim was far more than just some old motorcycle... at least it was to me. And, I will never forget that, or my friends.

                  Thank you, again, Tod.
                  Bob

Here's a pic from that day, taken during the disassembly to find out what happened to it.

This was in The Hungry Logger Restraunt parking lot, in Colorado.
Great food! Owner was also a biker, and helped us out.

Notice who's under my bike on their backs?
Yep... my friends, Tod and Cody.

They jumped under there with a game plan before I even knew what was happening.

Yep, that's why no one (not even Tod) knows the total mileage on his Maxim...
I believe the boy's broke EVERY bolt and part on that bike, at least twice.

That's why he knows so much about an 11!
