Flasher relay failure?

Hello everyone,
I had rewired my fuse housings on the xj11 and everything worked perfect. The turn signals functioned for the first time ever, had the taillight on for a bit as well. Then everything stopped working, except for the brake light. No headlight, no turn signals, no taillight. Any ideas what could be the issue?

Does the bike still have the old glass tube type fuse box? Sounds like a bad fuse connection.

Dealing with THAT issue right now on another members bike as we speak.

May 'look' like they are, but bettin' there not. They'll melt and break contact right at their bases and you won't see it with the naked eye. A test lite or volt meter across both poles with fuse inserted will tell the story. If I were you, I'd replace that fuse panel with a new style spade fuse panel. Lots of info and pics here how to proceed with that. Hundreds of folks here have already done that replacement. The original fuses and their ajoining holders create major electrical issues.

I put in all new fuses when I did it. I also bought new housing units and redid the connections. I was able to find the problem with the headlight right now. All 4 turn signals are still not working and neither is the taillight :/

It's NOT the fuses, it'll be the connections at the tabs. They corrode.

Just chiming in on this....

I had a similar problem on my 1980 in that my original flasher was intermittent...

I carefully removed the cover off the unit. IIRC, there is a coil type relay that energizes with the turn signal switch. Mine had one of the tiny coil wires broken. Luckily it was in a spot that could be repaired...about half way between the the actual coil and where it connected to the harness pigtail.

I was able to get a bit of solder on it and then carefully placed a very small amount of epoxy over the splice.

It took an afternoon in the garage to figure it out...I even went out and bought a 2-prong relay...but I wanted to keep the bike as stock as possible and probably would have put out for a new $100 unit eventually.

Still working after two years.

Thanks guys, the flasher has turned on a couple times while riding. I will check the relay itself and the ground and let you all know what happens.
