  • No scratch surface ideas??

So in working with cleaning out the rust from inside of the gas tank I got a couple scratches on the gas tank. It makes me wonder what can I do to make a surface pad or something that will keep me from scratching the painted items? Has anyone come up with something that be moved from bench to bench, or where ever needed? Thanks ahead of time for the input!

Pick up a roll of RV shelf fabric. A piece six feet long can be folded over a few times to give a nice padded, non-slip surface wherever you're working. In the woodshop, I have a half dozen of these on hand all the time for protecting finished surfaces from irregularities on the work bench top.

I got a cheap exercise mat from Walmart. Was pretty thin but worked great as a pad on the work bench, fender cover, anti-rattle insulation for a glove box, anti-skid covering for the floor under my truck seat. Cheap enough you don't worry about cutting to size. God only knows I aint gonna use it for its intended purpose.

I have used blue painters tape to cover the tank. It helps protect the tank even when moved from the work bench to outside to rinse it out with the water hose.
Slow down and enjoy life. If you are in that much of a hurry, you should have left eariler.
