  • 1979 XS110 Standard looking for Filter Towers

Making great progress. Hit a few challenges this weekend.

I was rebuilding the petcocks this weekend when I pulled them out no tower filters.
I have been looking online and have had no luck. It looks like they are also not the same as the special tanks.

Anyone have a source and can guide me to the proper ones?

    Thanks
    Gordon

$33 a piece for plastic towers?!!! My GAWD! You could almost completely replace the petcocks with new for that kind of dough! Which is what I did with my '79 F, and I never looked back. But if you're dead-set on keeping the old petcocks, I've got a set off a standard tank out in the mancave right now with serviceable towers. If you want to pay the shipping, you can have them.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

          A great Offer

          Doug

Thanks that's a really great offer. I was thinking the same thing very pricy but I do want to keep it original.

If you do have them please let me know I will send a PM right now

          Thanks again

I've ran mine without filter towers for the past three years....inline filters work just fine, the only downfall is the lack of reserve, or actual plugging of the petcock....if your tank is clean, you have nothing to worry about. To get reserve back, you can press in a small tubing about 1.5 in long into reserve side of the petcock...

Just about any foreign material that gets in the tank goes to the bottom - water, dirt, etc. - and without towers that stuff gets fed to your carbs. When I was a kid my dad would get miffed any time I ran my cage tank below 1/4 - he called it "sucking the dregs out of the tank."

In line filters help, but the ones with mesh screens won't stop water. And the ones with paper elements can get plugged up by water. Personally I wouldn't setup a tank without towers on the petcocks. And even then I use my odometer to let me know when I need gas, and I try never to put the petcocks on reserve. To me the reserve setting is strictly for emergency use only.

The problem with never using the reserve is that when it comes time that you need it, it might be plugged with all that nasty stuff the previous posters talk about. Periodically, I run mine down to the reserve just to make sure it works. If I do it in town, there is usually a station to walk to, or carry a pint of gas to get you to one if you don't like walking.
