  • 1979 XS110 Standard - 1 owner SOLD!

    I thought I would move this up here. Yes Motoman this was a great save. The bike is excellent it was in Shawn's family since new and well taken care of. Shawn told me many who inquired wanted to make it a bobber or part out. This was tough to part with for the family. His Dad rode it every day his Mom told me she loved to ride on the back it was a part of the family. Many were there yesterday to see it go but all good and glad I got it.

    The original exhaust recently went to the scrap yard it was in the pix ugh. It has a 4 to one Kerker with the center stand in operation. It has a SOFA filter!. Shawn requested the exhaust remain he could hear it for miles when his Dad would come home request granted.

    The trip was long but worth every minute. Here's a few pix of how I loaded the bike and the engine

    An interesting and ambitious(or scary) way to attack a loading job. Glad it all worked out for ya. Have a SAFE and Happy New year.

      Loading Bike

      Yes I normally use my trailer but the 1200 mile trip I was afraid to pull it and with the spare engine unlike Tod I can't lift them an inch. You can see it in the corner of the truck it has the transmission on as well.

      I learned to do this after the Super Sandy storm my bikes were completely destroyed and locked up and ruined I figured nothing to loose. Being by myself most of the time you can do it without help.

      The bike balances nicely leave the side stand down jack it up roll it in set it down on the stand works great. Then 4 bolts to break down the stand it all fits in the truck takes 10 minutes and really is safe.

      Actually after watching a few youtube on Loading bikes with a ramp that's about the scariest way I have ever seen to load a bike. Just unreal how unsafe that is

        That's an extremely excellent idea! I'll will remember this as I have an engine hoist as well. For the last bike I acquired a friend offered a loaner pick-up truck, but I saw the dangers of loading the hefty XS11 as a REAL safety issue. I've seen a couple of those YouTube videos as well.

        Instead, I rented a cargo van from enterprise for a measly $79 a day with unlimited mileage (I made sure to get their van with the lowest bumper/loading level). When I got to the bike I found a small hill I could back up toward. The overall height difference was less than 12". Much safer than trying to use a ramp with a pick-up truck.

        Glad to see that beautiful bike is being saved!

          .........I see there the 'helper' is keeping guard over the trash container.

            I bought a truck specifically for transporting bikes and loading/unloading with a ramp into the bed always feels like a gamble. You need an extra long ramp so the xs11 doesn't bottom out on the tailgate, then transporting the extra long ramps isn't very convenient unless they are collapsible (of course mine aren't). I also always use a 5-gallon bucket to make the step up into the bed as seamless as possible.

            I've never owned a trailer, but the shop crane sounds like even a safer idea than hauling an empty trailer any real distance.

            There are also hitch-mounted and bed-mounted cranes out there, but I doubt there is anything in an affordable price range with the reach to handle the length of the XS11, but that would be pretty convenient.

              Gordon, your an amazing XS ambassador. I'm glad you picked this bike up as you were starting to have walking room in your garage. Thank you so much for the parts. My SF restoration with your help is starting to take shape. Thanks again for being so kind and hospitable to me. The parts you sold me are all in great shape. Thanks again. Can't wait to meet up with you for a ride next summer.

                never had any trouble with a trailer...back in 2007 or 08 I drove out to Michigan from NJ to pick up the '81 Streetfighter that I had...once out there i rented a 5x9 ramp trailer from Uhaul for the return leg and towed the bike though a snowstorm in PA..it was also in Jan... Good luck with this one and good on you for rescuing another XS11 in need...

                  Fuel Guage

                  Just finishing up this bike I have been running on my small aux tank. everything is complete and running very well.
                  Upon installing the fuel tank the fuel gauge is inoperative.
                  I put the tank on another bike it registers fine.
                  The green wire shows a strong 7 volts. I cleaned all the connections. Can the gauge go bad and still show 7 volts at the tank connection?
                  If its the gauge can the gauge be repaired? Or could this be something else?
