    1978 XS1100E Parts Bike, fairing, etc - 84759

    Because I just got a '79 Special, I need to start thinning the herd - just too many parts. It's always nice to have spares but I just don't have the space.

    I have a 1978 XS11E in the back yard. Frame, engine, wheels, instruments, carbs, etc. I also have a complete fairing for it (I never use fairings).

    I robbed its ignition module and removed/inspected/cleaned the carbs. I may keep some components but I certainly do not need the engine and frame. Anybody want them?

    Was going to try to get it running but it has been tinkered with by PO. Middle gear is unbolted and maybe a loose primary chain. Not sure. Engine turns over. 45k miles.

    Also have a '74 XL350 honda engine (thrashed top-end) and a '74 Suzuki TC125 engine (bad kicker gear but have a replacement to go with the engine) if anyone is interested.

    the 1974 honda engine, topend trashed? Is the engine off a trail/street bike, or just a street bike? I have a 74 350 trail/street, do you know anything about the bottom-end, I replaced the top-end, then the engine seized, but was running great prior to that, Later 'Dog

      The XL models were dual sport bikes while the XR models were off road only. It is an XL350 engine.

      I know quite a bit about the Honda thumpers. I also own and ride an XL500.

      If you seized the top-end I would suspect a faulty oil pump or blocked oil delivery passages. While they are running you can loosen the tappet cover and have a look. Oil spraying/flipping out is a good sign. If not.....

      The top end on it is trashed. Really only good for the bottom end I suppose.

        parts

        Do you still have the tank??? I looking for a good 5 gallon tank off a e or f . I have a 79 special and want to mount the larger tank. I can only go 95 miles before going to reserve.

          I might be interested in the carbs! I've been looking for a set to rebuild. What would you take for them.

            I'm trying to keep the bike intact because if I part it out it will still be in my back yard taking up space...

              How much are you asking for it? And when you say you're keeping it intact, does that mean that the only thing missing on the bike is the ignition module? What components were you thinking of keeping?

                It's very beat up because it sat in the weather for a long time before I discovered it.

                It has everything but the side panels and ignition module, although all parts are weathered. I'll put some pics up as soon as I can. I've already cleaned and rebuilt the carbs.

                I know I could probably part it out for more money but it would be nice if the whole thing went.

                Not many XSives near me.

                  Actually.... there IS an XSive near you. LOL I live in Pocatello, Idaho. Where in Utah are you?

                  I'd be interested in the remaining bulk of parts since I have a 78 XS1100E currently and it might be nice to have a few spare parts.

                      From the looks of those pictures, the bike has to be running a bit on the LEAN side! ;-)
