  • Float Bowl Gaskets

I've just looked at the parts sources for float bowl gaskets.

Yamaha is about $11 bucks per gasket.
One source was $3 per gasket plus shipping.
Another was $7 per gasket plus shipping.

I opted for gas-resistant gasket material from AutoZone for $6.95, which can do all 4.

I've made my own gaskets before. It's not bad, and my opportunity cost is very low.

I bought mine from PartsNMore for $3 each and they work fine.

I made the gaskets last night.

The reason I didn't buy the $3 dollar ones was because I wasn't sure they had the right ones for the 79sf. If the 79sf gaskets are the same as the 80 models for example, I'll get them if my gaskets don't work.

For example, Partsnmore lists the following gasket:
OEM# 10L-14984-02 to "Fits XS1100 G/SG/LG/SH/J/K/L" They don't mention SF model and the gasket looks wrong.

The carb rebuild kit looks to have the right gasket from the pic:
      Fits XS400 D/ E/ F 77-79, XS750S E /F 78-79, XS750 E /F 78-79, XS1100 E /F 78-79, XS1100S /F Special 1979
Contains Needle & Seat and float bowl gasket

But I don't need a rebuild kit, just the gasket. That was my reasoning.
