I took a length of steel rod/small diameter steel bar and ground in some clearance on one end as well as an edge to catch the race lip. Its hard to get the rod angled enough to contact the race lip therefore I ground away to create like an offset end to angle enough to catch the lip. Because the steel bar I used is not hardend it would dull during the hammering to remove the race and I would refresh the tip on a grinder. I did stem bearings my XS1100 and a GS1000 with this tool. I used All Balls neck bearings. About $36 per set in 2013.
