Yup - you broke it. The plastic piece that's sticking out of the break handle was supposed to come out. That's the part with the clips on it. I suggest you pull the plastic piece out and see if you can reassemble/glue/plastic weld it back together.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Looks like there might be some clips on the end of the wire, so you might be able to get lucky and snap it back into place. If you try to take the plastic piece out be careful as it's got a couple clips on it that need to be pushed in a bit. Those plastic clips are the ones normal people usually break , so if you can get it to snap back into place without removing it that would probably be best.

You might want to try fixing the one you got. The last guy I heard about buying one from Mikes found out the on/off is different on their switches, which made the light go on when the brake wasn't applied, and off when it was. Might be worth a phone call to Mikes just to make sure it's the correct part.

Looking at the pic again it appears there are some nubs on the metal contacts that probably pop into the holes on the plastic piece. Try aligning the metal contacts with the holes and see if you can get the plunger to go into its hole in the center and then push it in until the nubs snap into place. Or better yet, put the plunger in the center first, and then push the whole thing into place.

I looked at mikes again, and their part number 12-0044 references Yamaha part #1A0-83980-30-00, which is the correct part number for an SG, so you might be in good shape with the mikes switch if their numbers are correct.

                      Hey Jeff,

You'll probably need to get on your knees so you can look UP at the underside of the brake lever....THEN you'll see the indent and tab that you should have pushed in to release the switch piece to remove it from the handle. You'll want to do that so you can get the remainder of the switch assembly out to be able to put the new one in. Guess it was OUR fault for not stating specifically where the tab was that you needed to push to get the switch out. You apparently pushed on the outer tabs that held the switch pieces together.

                        yup

shoot I messed with trying to get it out. Ended up putting a screw driver and hitting with a hammer to get the rest to pop out.... I am not going to take the other end on till I put the new on unplug plug

                        Thanks all

                          Fixed

Mikes part worked, MC rebuild got a good bleed, seems to be ok little softer than I like, but think I will address it in a few months with new pads.

Thanks for all the help guys

If you got it bled good, try tying the brake handle back overnight. It'll let the little air bubbles that are left in the lines bubble to the top, and tomorrow the brake should be much firmer.
