Geeeez....
XS Guys,
The coils on the Dead Duck are not Yamaha. I don't know what they are, but they don't belong on any OEM Yamaha. I knew they were junk I couldn't use. Also, the carbs are Mikuni but they aren't XS either. Carbs are similar in design but definitely NOT XS11 from any year, I knew that when I got the bike.
The '79 motor has it's original vacuum advance mechanism so the PO did not swap the ignition when he swapped in the motor. The bike did not (and does not) run when purchased even though it did have spark. I have not attempted to make it run (yet)?. I don't have enough of the correct parts to make it run (coils, carbs, etc.) so I'm not gonna' steal anything from The Duck to see if it can start. Otherwise I could end up with two that don't run.
GEEEEZ.... I started this thread to find out about the clutch switch and now I've found it's actually an '81, the TCI is wrong for the duck, the motor is a '79 and the Dead Duck is still a POS.
I need to find some positives....
Also, the local Police Department just left as at my request they did a VIN check and provided a written verification statement that the bike had not been reported as stolen..... It's clear. At least it isn't stolen...
Another day in on the pond with the ducks!

- The SF cylinders should still work on my SG.
- The SF bottom end (short block) should be the same.
- The SF ignition pick-up parts should work on my SG.
- Although not correct, the TCI will probably get me home in a pinch.
- The tank is like new inside with 0 rust - Outside is not hard to fix.
- The alternator looks nice and should work.
- I have two Omron relays, one might work for my headlamp
- The brake disc rotors look nice.
- The chrome cover on the Tach and the fork chrome emblem holder are both much better than mine.
- Ya know you're getting desperate when you look at a chrome tach cover as justification for a purchase....
