It's a Battery Tender Jr. I got it at the local Walmart - which was a mistake. They advertised it online for $25.95, but when I got up to the store the price tag said $35.95. My brother bought one after he saw how well this one works, and we found it on Amazon for 24.48.

If you get up to $35 on Amazon it ships for free. They've got a 25 foot extension cord that goes between the charger and the ring clip wire that attaches to the battery for $14.95, and I wish I'd known about that before I went to Wally World. I could have got both for what I paid for the BT Jr alone.

It's probably worth mentioning that my brother had picked up a couple of cheapo chargers at Sportsmen's Guide that were $17 for a pair of them. Problem was, they didn't work worth a flip. Just about as useless as fins on a Cadillac. But the BT Jr. works real good. Got a five year warranty, too.

Why didn't you just leave it on?

Mine is currently off but because it's broken,..possibly,..trying to figure that part out. I was thinking of leaving it off except for murphy's law.

The spare kicker lever is fixed in the outward position- does not swivel back in out of the way.

Well, I'm going to Pile On here!

The XS11's charging system IS weak IMHO! It barely provides the power needed for just the OEM equipment on the bike. IT puts out ~20 amps MAX at 5k rpm. I got my bike NEW in '83. To help increase my visibility, I acquired a couple of extra running light housings with 1157 bulbs in them, just a total PAIR. I ran them along with the OEM 2 1157's that are in the tail light housing. Those extra bulbs...just 16 watts total extra running light load, and 46 watts extra when braking was the additional load= 1.3 amps running and ~4 amps braking...and that was enough to BURN UP the Reg/Rect unit!

Once that happened, I put on a NEW OEM Reg/Rect, then removed the extra lighting, and the REG/RECT continued to function for the remainder of the life of the bike including several years after my rebuild in 2000..until I put on the GEEZER unit.

In my rebuild, I went to an almost total LED conversion, both running/turn signals, gauge, license plate to help free up some amps so that I could then feel safer and more confident about running some extra driving aux lights...a pair of 55 watt halogens! Now, we're talking about ~9 extra amps load, that's almost 1/2 of the total MAX amp output of the alt!

Then, several years ago we were talking about HOW to increase the output of the OEM ALT through rewinding....a pipe dream! Then we talked about putting some sort of AUTOMOTIVE alternator on the end of the crankshaft!? That led to my experiment to see IF it could be done, and HOW. SO...if you want to take a view at an extreme MOD to get plenty of charging power for all of your extra goodies you might like to run, from extra lighting front and back, to Stereo, GPS, vest/grip warmers...etc., then take a look at this thread!

I just came back from XSSE RIDING/Driving the bike, with extended RAIN exposure....and unlike several of my co-riders....my bike didn't hiccup electrically ONCE, just kept running and charging, etc.!
