  • ignition coil resistance 79special to 80g

can i use the coils from a 79 special for my 80 standard. I've been reading posts from other threads and they say that i need a coil with 3 ohms of resistance or i'll blow the tci box. Its all a big mystery box to me but i'm learning. My bike seems to have a mind of its own on what cylinders it wants to fire. last year it fired on 1 and 4, after a used coil for 2 and 3(from a 79specail) it worked a while on all 4, now i start it and it only goes on cylinder 1. (i got the coils from the 79 tested, they were ok)

did i blow the tci box with a coil not designed for the standard 1980 bike?, or is the problem the box from the start.

Yes, the black boxes and coils are interchangable for all models prior to 1981. 81's are different.
