Or others with welding equipment experience. I was out in the mancave today trying to prep Godzilla for XSSE, and was fashioning a nifty Racing Alternator/belt pulley assembly cover out of some 1/4" Aluminum plate instead of the crappy thin sheet metal I had made earlier. I had a good experience earlier this/last year welding aluminum with my MIG unit earlier when making my electronic gauge cluster housing, so I thought I would tackle this project.
However, it had been many months(last year even)...and apparently the B-I-L (Prior to his passing) had moved my welding supplies around, etc.. I found my aluminum wire, rigged the Lincoln ProMig 135 for MIG vs. shielded core(reverse polarity). Put the wire in, switched the tips, started doing some runs, started getting jams and birdnesting at the feeder motor/wheel! After 4 nests, I finally realized why the wire # sounded familiar...it was the softer 4045 stuff that I had tried to use before with similar bad results!
I then looked around and FOUND my newer 5358 wire(stiffer) and loaded that up. I was then off and running great, made several passes and such, but then it jammed! I pulled the small nest out , but the wire was stuck right where it goes from the push/feeder motor into the handle cable at the box. I tried to pull it out from the handle/tip end, but it just broke off there!
SO....looks like it got partially melted INSIDE The handle feeder hose! I did NOT have a fancy coated hose designed for Aluminum, just the same OEM one that came with it for steel!
My question is....is there a way to get that wire out of the handle/hose part, or it it toast? Or can I replace the spring shaped inner liner with a new one??
I've got to find or download my user manual for it to see how to take the handle/hose off it the box?? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the idea, pretty good since the steel won't melt until around 5K degrees right!? But I stopped by the Welding supply shop near my work and found a replacement sleeve for only $15.00! The old one was at least 10 years old, so even if I can't get it cleared, I'll still be able to use it with the new inner liner. Just got back from XSSE, didn't have/make time to check the Forum threads, just the new member applications.
I've been tasked by Brent to recondition my bike for next years rally, ie. fix the multiple oil leaks, clean/tune the carbs, etc.! There are other things I'll be trying to get to during the winter as well. It's only been 15 years since I did my original rebuild to bring it back to life! But I WILL be getting a replacement UNBENT Special frame(Thanks RichV) to swap out with my current one. I'll probably have to relearn how to ride it again....it likes to oversteer with it's 2.5" of trail! Will be a little heavier in the steering, but should be a bit more STABLE and will hold it's line better...I hope?!

U can get it out by removing the wheel.................makes for the 'pinch' adjustment to be a PITA going back together tho.

Can you heat it with a torch to 1200 F and melt it out?
