Any advice and guidance greatly appreciated..thanks

Always buy genuine Mikuni parts for the carbs.

        Hey Robert,

Okay, for the stripped pilot jet....get a reverse drill bit just a tad larger than the jet metering hole...you have the others to compare with. Just the action of SLOWLY using the reverse drill bit will often be enough to get it to finish turning and get it out.

As for the main jet emulsion tube..you've got the threaded part of the jet still in the tube...can you pry off the washer??? If so..then you can push the emulsion tube up thru the carb body. Then you can SOAK any and all metal parts/floats, jets, etc. in carb dip to your hearts content....and yes, you should be able to clean them up nicely. Using the same reverse drill bits, use the same technique but a little larger for the remaining threads piece in the emulsion tube. Once it's been soaked/cleaned....you may want to put it back into the carb body to provide a better HOLDER for it since there's a little knob that sticks out of the carb body that the emulsion tube lines up with to keep it from turning. You may need to put something INSIDE the carb throat to keep pressure on the tube into the carb body while attempting to remove the remaining threaded section.

Easy outs are usually too brittle and too hard...if they break off, then you can't easily drill thru them to get them out!

Does anyone know where I can get a #4 carb ? For my 79 f.I tried backing out the pilot and its basically seized and stripping the pilot and its pretty well not coming out without stripping the brass..the corrosion in the carbs is pretty bad..I don't know how the bike was even running with that much gunk,as far as I can tell its never been cleaned EVER!!!!!! And the emulsion tube was damaged when removed it has a slight split on the lip where the main jet screws into Def from me not being careful tapping them out and I'm a newbie at this and I'm paying the cost of trying to hurry and not paying attention to the details!!!!anyway I have emulsion tube 4 4 4 4 and I believe the other is 3 2 3 2 which go on carbs 2&3..where. an I purchase these parts from? & the # 4 carb from?

              Hey Robert,

You'll need to post in the Parts wanted Forum if nobody responds here, but the tubes are matched to the slide needles, there are different profiles. As you found, early in the production, Yamaha used different tubes, ones with less holes in the inner carbs/cylinders to make them a little richer in an attempt to keep them cooler vs. the outer 2 cylinders. But they soon abandoned that...so it won't really matter which one you get...but would be nice if you can get the same as the one you broke. Other's will have to provide one from some broken carbs they have. Don't beat yourself about it, it happens...the brass is soft/weak, and it may have fractured anyways!

As for the Pilot jet...yes...the head is stripped. Get a heat gun or even just a hot air blow dryer to give it some heat/cool cycles with spritzes of carb cleaner, that can help loosen the corrosion and grip on the jet in the body. THEN get those reverse drill bits and go after it.

So yamaha switched up the emulsion jets to what exactly? What would work other than the set up I have now or do I have to use the 4 4 4 4 & 3 2 3 2 setup?or is there a better option?

Some of answers are oky.......not so much for others. For the pilot mixture screw if its a recessed one on the later carbs, use a dremal tool(buy one if U aint got one.....many more uses for it anyways), buy the opyioal smallest plunge router tool and carefully reach down in there and cut a screwdriver slot in it. 'get or grind a screwdriver to fit newly cut slot perfectly. 'first blow out excess shavings or blow out with csrb cleaner, etc. 'fit screwdriver TIGHTLY in slot and back remaining jet out. May have to go in with it a bit then out, Repeat that in out process till its out. /for the main jet issue, carefully run a tiny twist type easy out in remaining jet.....it'll come out easily if your careful. Gee......can't you'all come up with a harder scenario?.
