    Muffler issue

    Exhaust = header, it goes into engine
    Muffler = chrome shiny thing

    Ok. I will try to set up a 4-2 system on the 79 special. On page 4 of this thread Mashermoto shows us how it's done. http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...ufflers&page=4

    I ordered from Ben the same ones as Mashermoto used, the supertrapp 443-2217 with the 2.25" inlet. Then I went on ebay and ordered a second supertrapp but made a mistake and ordered the 443-2017 that has the 2" inlet.

    My header diameter is 1.5 where the supertrapps would connect with the header.

    Should I return the one I bought on ebay and exchange for 443-2217 with the 2.25" inlet. or can the bike survive with one muffler inlet bigger than the other?

      Personally I wouldn't do it. It could throw the entire engine out of balance.

        yeah my thoughts were that you need to have equal backpressure...on both sides....my initial reaction was ..if it were me..I'd send it back and get the correct muffler...just want to hear the opinions of the cognoscenti...

          You should return both mufflers and get a pair with 1.5" inlets....

          Moto used the 2.25" inlets because he was using an aftermarket MAC exhaust as his base that has a 2.25" outlet, not the OEM Yamaha pipes. You're going to have a tough time making the transition from the 1.5" to the larger muffler.

                81 muffs ARE your issue my friend. They do NOT have an ounce of collector extnsion like the 80 and earlier pipes did.
