    Driving the xs1100sf: mack
    Bitch seat cameraman: blank slate
My 1st time on the open road.
We got to 80 I believe and I thought it feels like we're going faster.... yeah it was 80 MILES! I dont go that fast in my car.
I had to put the iphone away after 5 minutes of recording as I needed my other hand to hold on to dear life.
Taking turns and having the bike lean into the turn was the scariest. I couldn't help but try to counter my weight the other way.
It was a very Memorable 1st ride for me. Thank Mack, the bike is pure awesome.

      I thought

I was being pretty tame, cuz he was knew to the open feeling. The sensation of speed is compounded when your not in a cage. He did well though, didn't fidget too much, and try to fight me in the corners.

right...as a pillion rider you have to lean with the bike and rider ...gyroscopic effect of the motor sand the bike will keep you upright...to try and counter lean will upset the bike and rider's geometry and can cause a wreck. I learned this almost the hard way many yrs ago...its a newbie mistake...

an experienced rider should have told you this beforehand...this is not a criticism of Mack though...and from the video it did not appear you were counter leaning or fighting what Mack was doing...its all part of the learning curve...Welcome to the world of the vertically challenged...

              leaning

We did have a discussion on this topic. But until a new rider experiences the the first few corners and realizes it won't fall over, they do fight you a bit. He did good though, I've had some bad ones on though, and had to stop the bike and review the lecture with them again.

Thats cool Mack...glad you gave the lecture...and you are correct...until one actually experiences it they just dont quite feel it. My first time as a pillion was much the same except I got no lecture beforehand but during that first ride I was counter leaning to an extreme...the pilot had to stop and explain it to me...after that things were much better...Centrifugal forces will keep you upright and the bike will not fall over when the lean angle becomes more aggressive...

The best passengers are the ones who DON'T lean either direction.. just sit back there like a statue.. centered... no weight shifting.

I have been told that the pillion rider should turn their head in the direction of the lean and just go with what the pilot and bike are doing...

I tell my gf to just sit back and relax, and that if she gets tense or tries to lean into or away from turns, we're going to die horribly.

                        She's a pretty good passenger.
