  • Light Bar_Clip on Indicators

I'm toying with the idea of a light bar to add to the lighting on the front of me SF. Have any members any pic's of a XS1100 with a light bar or spots or extra lighting on the front?

    Hi Al,
TC did a write up with pictures a while back. Search for HID conversion.
I have a pair of halogen driving lights mounted to the crash bars. I would suggest you use LED lights as the alternator barely keeps up with the electrics already. Keep in mind the cheap LED just throw light around and look bright which works for being visible to others. The more expensive/ better LED puts the light where you can use it.

Take a look at this thread, and just go to the LAST PAGE to see the LED spots I put on!

Do you have a description or pix of how you mounted/wired these onto the bike? Do you think that the OEM alt with Geezer reg/rec will support them?

I'm thinking of having round indicators with clear lenses mounted on the forks of my SF where the reflectors are now. I know the xs1100E have indicators mounted this way. It's just the case of fitting them to my SF but with round lenses. With a clear or white bulb they could be the extra driving lights I'm looking for. As I said this is what I'm thinking of atm. Hey Mike,

I used a simple L bracket bolted to the fork TT clamps. I had previously mounted 55 Watt units there, and so had used the provided RELAY, and I ran the trigger wire up to a SPST switch mounted on the handlebar in a wider L bracket drilled and mounted via the clutch lever clamp bolt. I did connect the RELAY power to lights wire to an ALL THE TIME HOT wire...should have wired it to a switched line!

And yes, the 55 watt lights drew 4+ amps each, and I was able to drive them while on the highway....these LEDS only draw 1 amp each, a lot less load, so I wouldn't expect any problems with the XS electrical system, Geezer's R/R or not.

            T.C.

Ardvark, using turn signal housings will only provide you with RUNNING type lights...but not really usable DRIVING LIGHTS, they only come in bulbs ~27 watts or so...and even at that, you would still be drawing 4+ amps with a pair of incandescent bulbs...the LEDS I showed only draw 2 amps total, and provide actual road illumination light very similar to the 55 watt lights!

              Clamp On Indicators

Most of the rectangle shaped indicators are of a clamp on variety ie: there is a nut and bolt on the end that the indicator is clamped onto the bar thats in turn bolted to the bike.

My question to members in the know is :- The round shaped indicators of the clamp on variety, which bike do they come from? I've seen them about so they do exist but I've no idea where from.

The round ones you see are off the XJ11 bikes and some others. If you go here: http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Ya...GHT/parts.html and click on the part numbers for each light, you'll see just which bikes they were used on. Not easy to find used, and while this seller shows them as available new, at about $60 each not particularly cheap.

The indicators we have on our bikes are orange as we all know. Do Yamaha do a clear version of the same pattern of the orange ones that fit and I can use as a direct replacement?
The object of the exercise is to use them as driving lights.

Are the desired clear one's for aesthetics only? Why can't you use orange for day runners? I have 1157's front and back. I just cannot find square red lenses for the back. Oh well, keeps me visible though.

Sorry I should have said. My bike is a SF with rounds indicators. I've see so round clear indicators about but not sure if the pattern or size are the same as ours.

                          Hey Al,

See my Post #6. I merged these two threads, similar topic.

Your turn signal stalks with those clear lenses will be essentially useless as DRIVING lights if you're trying to light up the road! IF you are only trying to be seen, then believe it or not, YELLOW is more vivid of a color than white, especially during the day.
