Hey Brant, good to hear from you.......moto.......woman???? Ha ha ha

Nope. The centrifugal unit is a NOS unit I got from Maximan and just installed about a month ago and I just replaced the breaker plate with one I refurbished at the same time.

Everything is working properly I just figured out that the timing was way advanced due to the pointer being positioned wrong.

Brant, Tods bike runs too much faster than mine. Since I was riding with you I've put another set of carbs on that I went through (bumped the mains up 1 more size), replaced the coils with some from an SH eliminating the ballast resistor and it runs great except it runs out of poop at WOT in 5th with the 850 FD between 95 and 100. Tod's bike doesn't.

That pisses me off and I'm gonna figure it out. I can't have him running faster than me.

Yea, I'm KINDA back Greg......but gotta go back in for a couple day surgury things. Can ride the Schwinn elctric scotter down the block and back ,but balance is not quite there. In your scoots case, you are now TOO rich n the mains since its losing pulling on the big end, I'm a bit wacky with all the drugs the gosp./doc. has me on but for peak sake, put the damn stock mains back in, No worries, your not gonna hole a piston buddy........and by all means tune the pilots using the lean drop method. The scoot and you WILL be happier.

The bike is a lot happier with the bigger jets. It's not going to burn a piston. Ha ha ha...this ain't my first rodeo. Pretty sure it's the Mac exhaust causing the issue. Just gotta figure a way around it. Not enough back pressure.

Hey, enjoy those meds. When Ivan was on them he would have a drink with them and get plumb silly. Come to think of it that was right around the time he came up with the ACCT mod.

You get better my friend. I'll get some pics of the plugs. They read normal and a touch to the rich side.

Backed the timing down another 5º and tried it today. It didn't like it.......put it back.

Your close, so just try one degree at a time. A bit of work, but once it's correct, you'll be happy.

Try what Ray has sugessted or for less fun go back thru those fuel levels and raise the floats .015. Remember, 1mm of float change is an actual 3mm of fuel level change. As you know, that ACTUL fuel level IS real finiky, and 'bump' high with fuel lvels will weakin the 5-8K rpm pulling ability.

I'll get to the fuel levels this weekend. I don't want to pull the carbs here at work and run into a problem. All my parts are 20 miles away at the house.

Understand that scenario. get it home and do the cam TDC and mske pointer is dead on 'zero', then go from there. 1 to 2 degrees varience is all thats ever needed anyways.......plus you a 'mixture' of parts kinda sorta sounds like. match up ignition specs before screwing csrbie issuses Im sure do NOT exist..

Actually Brant, the engine was installed complete from an F frame all original (as far as I know) except the carbs. The carbs are from an SF and the exhaust is the same Mac 4 into 2 w/turnouts I've had on there forever.

I'll be throwing the '78 plate, and mechanical advance on tomorrow. Harry should be receiving the pickup coils and bolt I sent him today or tomorrow. Hope it goes without a hitch.

You'll be fine Ian. The 78 & 79 have exactly the same cams (2H7-12171-01-00 & 2H7-12181-01-00) just a slightly different timing curve. If yours works well I may do the same thing. I have a complete 78 engine on the floor in my garage.

78 and 79 vacuum pod internal spring is different compression rating.

The pod isn't involved in the power curve anyway. Just there for stall/cruise throttle positions. Fuel mileage.
