  • West michigan area valve shims?

Long story short: I'm at my parents house in west michigan, 2000 miles from my house trying to swap a parts bike motor into my xs. This motor is supposed to have a fresh top end but the valves are all out of adjustment (0 clearence on 6 of 8 valves). The story I got is that lack of proper shims is why the owner 2 PO's ago lost interest in the rebuild and never started this freshened up motor.

Specifically I need a 320 right now for one of my exhaust valves, haven't started on the intake side yet.

I'm looking for shims, or sources of shims in the area, if you have any and want to trade I've got some, if you want to sell I'm buying, if you know someplace that stocks them help a fella out!

    Thanks in advance!

Howdy- I'm not near you, but I have a decent lot. But, you can try any small bike shop, they'll have them. 29mm is what u want.

I know someone that has his own business. I received a number of shims from chacal. His email is chacal@mindspring.com.

      Good luck.

So I called all over GR, and what I found may help others in other areas:
Kawasaki KLR650's use the same shims as us up till around 2005
Mid 80's BMW K100 and K75's use the same shims.

I called all over and no one had these, the BMW dealer was my last call and they were very very helpful. The service guy there let me borrow their thinnest shim (2.4mm) so that I could get a measurement and figure out what to order. They also had the best price in town, at 7.00 each where everyone else wanted between 10 and 20 with the most common price at 13.50.
BMW still has available all sizes from 2.0mm to 3.0mm is .05 increments, just tell them you need a valve 'spacer' for an 86 K100, its part number 9 on the valve train diagram.

Thanks! We're not good enough here to have a Beemer shop but I do get shims from the Kawasaki shop if the Yama-Tri-zuki dealer doesn't have any.

For some reason, the link in your .sig doesn't open your album:-
          http://good-times.webshots.com/album...ost=good-times

It opens the good-times home page:-
          http://www.webshots.com/todays?vhost=good-times

Did the album die or is my browser borked?

Riding trumps absent albums and borked browsers -- ride on!
