    Cardinal Red for 81 Special

I've asked this before and didn't get a response. Now I have the tank and side panels in a paint shop and I need to give him a color.

The original bike was Cardinal Red (CDR). I don't so much as need a source for the color as I need a substitute that is "close". There is no original paint to match or blend with. This is a complete repaint so who is going to tell.

So does anyone have a source that comes close to this color. I would like to get the formula if possible. I need to tell him something tomorrow so he can paint them next week.

I want this bike to at least look halfway decent when I show up in NC next month.

As always, any help would be appreciated.

    Best advise I can offer

Is get some color cards and pick the closest one you are going to like.
With no clear source for an original color I'd go with what makes you happy, you can't go wrong because it's your ride and no one else's opinion will matter.

Yes, I did. I was hoping someone else went through this and could give rhe same specific color advice.

If all else fails, I'll pick a color from some samples. I just wanted it to be like the original. The bike I saw in 81.

I painted a set of bags and top box with early 70โ€™s Ford candy apple red. I did a silver base, candy apple red and clear coated.

              Paint

If you are looking to add or retain value to the bike upon resale, you will want to keep it either the same color or the other color available in your year model (Cardinal Red or Black Blue).

If you have any part of the bike that is the original paint (side cover), your paint shop can send it to his paint distributor's lab and have it matched exactly. I have found this extra bit of trouble well worth the effort in the past.
