  • Fuel Gauge Metering . . . ?

Just thinking here- I'm wondering if my fuel gauge arm may be bent, and giving an inconsistent fuel reading? Is there specified impedance readings for full, half, and empty?

There is, though I'm at work so I don't have it handy. The fuel gauge on the Standard uses a 7 Volt regulator to keep the voltage to the gauge down. That seems to be the most common failure on the gauge circuit.
If you want to test the sending unit, put a VOM on it and measure the resistance as you move the arm up and down. It should give you a smoothly changing reading, up or down, as you move the arm. Look for large jumps as the arm moves, or a jump to short or open as it moves.

      Here you go, Ian:

      Full: 6 to 10 Ohms
Half: 28.5 to 36.5 Ohms (I know, half an Ohm?)
      Empty: 75 to 85 Ohms

If I connect resistors to the fuel gauge in the specified ranges given, it should work, right?

And, thanks Scott & Ray for the helpful data.

Yes, it should. Use at least a 1/2W resistor, as I don't know what the draw will be with the gauge, and you don't want the resistor to turn into a cigarette lighter!
