  • What am I missing?

Carbs cleaned, new plugs, good coils, wires etc.....cold...starts right up on enrichener....runs rough though, wont take throttle, seems like #3 but hard to diagnos with it running bad.....spray carb cleaner to check for leaks, no leaks, spray some in air cleaner intake, picks up runs great, idles great, goes down the road great.....shut it down, as long as its still warm, starts and runs great..... will do the same thing tomorrow....what am I missin?.......one shot of carb cleaner and its fixed....til it cools off..

If it runs poorly on choke only, the enrichment circuit is most likely plugged, probably the jets that are in the bottom of the bowls that feed the enricher are plugged. Did you spritz carb cleaner thru them to make sure they were clear when you cleaned the carbs?

It picks up when you spray in there because you are adding more fuel with the spray.

These are the jet passages I was referring to for the enrichment circuit...

Yup, that I know but it should go back to running crappy after the carb cleaner burns off but it doesn't, it runs fine after one short shot.....its like it needs a prime or something.....

Did you set the float levels? The level on that carb might be low

That doesn't make any sense Phil. That's where the enricher get's fuel from. If those were plugged the enricher wouldn't enrich.

You still have plugged passages in the primary and/ or main circuit(s). TC posted a cutaway of one of these carbs that might help you to see what needs cleaning.

Pay particular attention to the single hole on the engine side of the butterfly valve. That's part your idle (pilot) and the 3 small holes on the air intake (air box side) . These are your off idle circuit, also part of the pilot circuit.

Clean, clean, clean. And also check the slide diaphragms for pin holes.

BA, I thought he said it runs poorly when cold but ok when hot. It will probably start without the choke and run poorly until warmed up in this warmer weather.

You know the drill.. .....triple clean.

It took me a bit to learn what needs to be cleaned to make these carbs work right. I think I went through 3 sets of carbs thinking there was something wrong with them before I realized it was just ME not doing it right.
