  • XJ lcd display question mystery?

I just bought a cheap pair of polarized sunglasses i noticed a black blob on the lcd warning display panel and when I take off the glasses the black blob dissappears? It is there if the bike is on or off. What could ths be causing this?

I'm no expert on LCD tech, but it sounds to me like dead pixels in the display ... either from age (it is 33 yrs. old) or pressure/impact to the screen.

If it is indeed dead pixels, I don't think there's anything you can do to repair it.

Nothing wrong with the display. That is the nature of polarized glasses.

Look at the unclouded sky, tilt your head from side to side. Notice how the sky lightens and darkens. Same concept just on a different scale.

I have a HAM radio in my pickup and the whole display is completely black unless I tilt my head about 30 degrees to the left.

              Hey BNE,

You can still get GLASS lenses....but you'll have to pay a premium price for them!

              http://www.ray-ban.com/usa/the-lab#-durability

After the chemical hardening, the impact resistance of Ray-ban glass is more than doubled.
It was funny when I first looked at modern cars with polarization in the windshields with my polarized glasses....I could see all sorts of dark zones/spots in them. And yes, rotating your head around rotates the alignment of the polarization and can allow you to see once your eyeglasses polarization doesn't match what you're looking at.

well the last time i went into LensCrafters (couple yrs ago) they told me the only thing available was plastic...I guess they just want to sell something they have in the store...glass lenses would nbo doubt have to be ordered and made outside of the franchise store...the real distortions with polarized plastic lenses happen when you add another plastic layer to see through like a face shield...I would gladly pay the extra money for glass lenses...polarized glass lenses give no "psychedellic" lightshow effect...
