  • Repairing the Pig

    Hello Fellow members,

I finally am getting to repairing my bike from the accident back in May.

While removing the shocks from my bike this weekend I noticed something peculiar about the triple tree. When I was turning the front tire with the handlebars still attached everything felt ok, but now that I no longer have that leverage when I turn it using my hand against the triple tree I notice a definite detent in the rotation. The rotation is normal for the first 5 degrees or so either left or right but then there is the noticeable detent on either side before I am able to progress further in the rotation.

Just want to be sure that this is abnormal behavior and I am thinking that it is time to replace the bearings and race.

Anyone know the correct part for this? When I looked on Z1 the part looks like it is for a special. Is there a difference to a 79 standard?

    Inquiring minds want to know….

    Thanks
    Ray

All the XS11 Standard and Special steering stem bearing kits are the same. I use the All Balls kit (about $25) because it comes with the upper and lower grease seals. Here's a few from Ebay...

            Hey Dean.
We are both better with each passing day. Thanks for asking. I finally feel strong enough to twist the bolts.

How are you doing. Hope all has been well with you.
