XJ 11 Sissy bar for XS 11

I'm looking for a sissy bar for my XS to make things more comfortable for my pillion on longer trips and saw one from a Maxim 1100 on Ebay. I was under the impression the frames were very similar and was curious if it would fit.

Hey Robbo,

As folks have already stated, it won't work. It's not the frame so much as the seat grab rail which is totally different with the Xj vs. the XS.

You have the earlier SF model with the regular ROUND tubular steel grab rail design. The 80-81's use a larger thicker aluminum type grab rail. I was able to drill my 81 grab rail which allowed me to attach a homemade backrest via some angle iron/ brackets and bolts. But you may want a better looking setup, and you don't have that thicker grab rail!

Those factory sissy bars are hard for me to find for an XJ. If this one.. or anyone knows of one, I'm in the market. The pad on mine finally came apart.

You may have to find something "CLOSE" that you can modify.

I happened to have a back rest from my other bike I had removed and saved. It was clearly not intended for an XS11 (see photo1). It was close enough to make it fit by: cutting off the original mounting tabs, fabricating some new ones and installing them further back, making a couple spacers, and using two longer bolts. It's not perfect but I think it looks good and the bride appreciates it. I also don't have to have her huggin' me too much - LOL




If you ask, most e-bay sellers will measure their stuff for you before you buy it. They want their 5-stars.....

Also, don't tie yourself to searches for items saying "Yamaha" or "XS11", you might find something close designed for a Honda, Kaw, or Suzuki. I needed saddle bag supports 7-1/4" wide to meet the two mounting holes I had in the XS Rear Frame. Turns out someone in California was selling a bunch of different sets all of them with full measurements. Turns out a Honda Shadow has 7-1/4" mounting holes for it's saddle bag supports..... No one would have ever known (until now ) that the saddle bag supports I have installed are supposed to be for a Honda Shadow (see pic).



Maybe you can find a backrest this is close and modify it to fit?
