  • Oh my- those cheap pod filters too tempting.......

This XS1100 is for sale in my area-Holland MI. I say just put the dang airbox back on!!!!

Yamaha road bike 34,830 miles. Was running until new chrome breather filters where put on carbs replacing factory one. Carbs may need to be adjusted if new filters are used, Do have original breather for it. Also needs throttle handle reinstalled. The bike is in decent shape for the year. This could be a great bike for someone. $ 800 or best offer. Call or text

Or, use the easy-peasy on/off access to the carbs that pods give and re-jet it. Tell them it'll cost money to jet the carbs or buy an airbox to make it work, and give them $500 for it.

I know guys don't like what pods do for potential tuning issues, but is the XS really any different than other bikes? Guys have switched to ZRX carbs on the XS with pods and they run lights-out. Can't imagine stock XS carbs would be any less capable with normal tuning. My take on it is most folks get cheap pods that have a nasty rubber lip messing up incoming air. Guys running ZRX's had the same issue until they got good pods.

The ONLY reason I haven't put my spare set of ZRX carbs on my 80SG is the bike is pristine and I want to keep it original. I know what a carb upgrade can do as witnessed by what ZZR1200 carbs do for a ZRX, so there is much to be gained.

    Anyway, sorry for the sidetrack..
    Howard

BTW, ZRX carbs have the same spacing as the XS11... http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35462

I hear you but in his own ad he typed: "Was running until new chrome breather filters where put on carbs replacing factory one." Rather than sell a bike thats not ridable he should put airbox BACK on and sell an 1100 that runs like a stock 1100.

Those cheap filters are covering the air jets on the carbs. Easy fix with a stock airbox or just extensions on those filters.

With that low of miles, and it looks like it's in good condition, especially having the OEM pipes! And "we" know why it doesn't run well, an easy fix no matter which way you want to go, OEM airbox or Pod extension/velocity stacks...highly suggest that vs. other good quality POD filters alone....even though they don't have a restrictive lip, the air coming in is still swirling a bit more coming in sideways thru the filter before turning the corner into the carb throat....whereas the velocity stack/pod mounting extensions help to straighten out the air flow/ reduces turbulence for easier tuning .... IMHO!

So...$800 seems like a decent price for what looks like what might be an almost turnkey bike!?

A buddy down the road has a pristine KZ1100. I think '82 model. It used to be his sons, but the son died. Now it just sits there... and he won't sell it.

An 84 KZ 1100 was the first liter bike I rode. After that nothing compared until the XS.

                    That KZ was FAST.

Here is another pic. I have included the phone # if anyone is interested. Its in Muskegon MI 49441 49442 zip. As of 07/19/2015 its still for sale. 231 683-6853

In 2005 I didnt know any better and bought 4 emgos from ebay for like $27. Put them on my beat up but excellent running GS750E and the bike barely ran. Put the airbox back on and wonderful power restored. Lesson learned quickly on my part that there is more to pods than just installation! Someday I may try some UNIs on my XS1100 but currently I just like to do the maint and riding. I would love to see a member here buy the above bike.

I have to admit, it's super-attempting. If I did not just buy that GSX1100, I would have jumped on this for the luggage. That, or buy it and skip-out on going to either Rally this year

Yes, I totally mis-read the info about the pods replacing the airbox and being the cause for a poorly running engine. Thanks for pointing that out.

                            *super-tempting

I sent the owner (Bill) an email, laying-out a layaway deal @ $200+/wk. till the balance is paid-off. He'd keep the bike & title till then. So, the bike would be paid-off before the second week of August. This would be contingent on him not receiving any offers on the bike. The full-bagger aspect of the bike is what appeals to me. I bought that GSX because of the bags, and it's super-useful. My gf would def. love to ride more with that trunk to lean-on. If there is not much to fix on it, it'd be a better ride down-to XS-SE.

Kinda ballsy request on my part, but the worst he can say is "no", and I say thank you, and enjoy my stable of bikes without that in it.

Just write a contract for an agreed price and an agreed amount of time. If you don't pay before the time runs out, he agrees to return your money if he sells to someone else. I'm getting ready to do that very thing with someone who wants to buy a car from me. It wouldn't hurt to have notarized signatures in case the deal goes sour and you have to go file a claim.
