  • Rear master cylinder plunger boot

So I just got through rebuilding the rear MC on my bros G model, but I've got a small problem. The dust boot the goes on the end of the plunger was torn, and I can't find those doggone things anywhere. I repaired the tear with liquid electrical tape, but I'd much rather replace it with a new boot. The part I'm looking for is Yamaha 1J3-25862-51-00. Yamaha says it's no longer available, but Bike Bandit has the whole rear master cylinder rebuild kit, which includes the boot, for $82 - which ain't gonna happen. Anybody know where I can get just the boot, or a suitable surrogate?

    It's part #24 in this diagram -

I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

'79 XS11 Standard, Jardine 4/1, Dyna DC1-1 Coils, 145 mains, 45 pilots, plastic floats - 25.7mm, XV920 fuel valves, inline fuel filters, speed bleeders, Mikes XS pods, spade-type fuse block, fork brace, progressive fork springs/shocks, manual petcocks, 750 FD, Venture cam chain tensioner, SS brake lines

    Boot

I have experienced a NO FIND on this part in the past also. You may contact Mikes XS and ask. Or it may also be the same part for an XS750 or XS650? There is also the option of buying a used complete master cylinder from eBay.

That's kind of why I was asking about surrogates. As an example, here's link to one for a Ducati that looks VERY similar, but I don't know the dimensions - Ducati rear brake master cylinder rubber dust cap. It doesn't have to be exactly the same - just needs to fit over the master cylinder and the plunger. I thought somebody might have come up with a workable solution, since the factory part is a no go.
