last season i replaced the middle and rear drive lube with royal purple 75w140 and the drive was nosier than with the standard gear lube. im changing it today and am looking for a recommendation any ideas please

I like Valvoline Durablend semi synthetic. It made a noticable reduction in the amount of shavings in the oil as compared to conventional oil and it's price point is between conventional and full synthetic.'79 XS11 F

thanx WMarshy but this 81 doesnt seem to like any synthetics including causing starter clutch spin on cold starts. i purchased the Super Tec 85W140 because of its thickness and test drove the bike. its the best $4.18 ive ever spent! shes nice and quiet now and better than ever. thanx againMax

Suit yourself. One thing I have noticed with using conventional oil for middle and especially rear drive is the oil change interval per the manual is spot on especially for the rear drive. Going with a semi synthetic I can double the interval. The middle drive looks the same as it went in and the rear only has some discolloration and a significant reduction in the amount of fines on the magnet, YMMV.Originally posted by mjpxs11sh View Post
