  • XS-11 Kill Switch

Recently acquired '78XS. Can't start it. PO states that last shut down was with kill switch, ran good until then. Bike has been sitting almost a year, unknown how long it sat before he got it. Started, ran good, shut off, restart ran good, shut off no longer can start. No electric to lights etc. I am almost 100 per cent sure it's kill switch but I don't see a kill switch listed on any parts in any parts dealer etc. Am I being the stupid one here? Can I get a kill switch or am I using the wrong nomenclature. Please help with this newby XS owner.

    All help appreciated,

Taillight and horns and such should still work even if the kill switch is off.

Check your fuses closely . . . and if stock there is a master fuse in a rubbery bump under the seat or LEFT side cover, not in the main fuse box. Check it as well.

I would also check battery connections, and if the battery is good. After that, start checking all the connectors on the bike.

      Do what dragonrider wrote...

If the starter turns over the engine, the killswitch is OK.

If the starter doesn't turn the engine, and all u hear is a click, check the starter wires. And fuses... u never know.

If nothing happens when u hit the starter button, it may be the killswitch or the start button. Or starter relay.

Try kickstarting it, check the plugs for sparks, check the battery, etc...

If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

        thanks

I'll do the recommends on this animal Friday the 26th as I lucked out and got that day off.......I think this bike needs a name, but at a loss as the good ones (the ones that fit) seem to be taken. Oh well, have a great one and thanx again.
