        Why ? Now I know where to get what I need...
        To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

          Thats the point

          We all need them and some of us have them. If the moderators can build a chart with the numbers down one side and who has them on the top. It would make things alot simpler. If not then as you can see by what I have that the lower numbers are missing. I will trade with anyone who wants to fill in my library and then I'll take care of maintaining it and sending them out to members as required. Or I will send mine to a moderator who would do the same.

            It is logistically nearly impossible /a full time job keeping that updated. Easier to just post a parts wanted thread.

              agreed

              some addition and subtraction would be required. perhaps if the thread could be made so the owners could adjust their own stock. Just saying.

                Parts page

                It would be really cool to have a parts page that gets updated. I mean I had to post in two pages for shims, Mack had the 3 I needed Rasputin hooked me up also but had to ask and play a little PM tagball. kind of a page like rock auto has instead of price member name.....

                  I was kidding Mack but you know it does take some effort doing this to help members as not all members really hold up to their part of the deal. Maybe a set up where member sends a replacement or a minimal payment for a shim and we have one person that keeps inventory and works out shipping and logistics would work. How it would work is all send the Shim info to someone that keeps the inventory. He contacts the owner of the shim to verify and if its still there they do a ship of the shim and pay threw ebay. All that the main person does is keep an inventory and act as go between. I will send you a list of what I have available. If a person has a plan to soon do work on their bike he should not list those as available cause he has a plan to use them.

                    I have about 70 shims here. I send them to whoever requests them, no charge, but I always hope (and explain) they will send me their old ones so I can keep up my stock.
                    I think a shim library is a great idea but there needs to be more than one. Say one for Canada, and one each for east and west USA. That way the shims are at a closer point and are more quickly available to all. International users could then use whichever offered the cheapest/best shipping options for them.
                    I once tried to buy 300 shims from a fellow and Mack even offered to split the cost etc with me if I could procure them. Unfortunate that the fellow would not part with them cheaply enough.
                    One other thing that I would like to mention is that it usually costs me about $2.50- $3.50 to send out a few shims in bubble wrap. I would prefer that people just pay return shipping (with shims) so I can keep up stock, or if they prefer to keep theirs then make a donation to the site.
                    Lord knows I have learned more here than a college education could provide and I prefer to pay it back/forward to all who ride these bikes.

                      Hi ras

                      Probably a good idea, I think in Canada because of our shortened riding season, our shim requirements would be different once your east of the rockies. Our southern brothers get to put more miles on these bikes than us so we probably wouldn't have many of the same numbers anyway.
                      Do you have a source of supply or is it just a hit miss thing?

                        Mostly hit and miss for me Mack. I strip motors I think are no longer viable and keep as many useful parts as I can. You should see the pile of stuff I have that I have no place to put.
                        I did have an ex Yamaha mechanic (who now does only harleys) give me his stock of shims as well. I still think I should try to contact that guy who several years ago had the 300 shims in a kit. Who knows he may still have them and might be willing to part with them by now.

                          I have very few 2-Y300, 2-Y295, 1Y290 That I am willing to donate hopping that I can use as some level of credit for some Y265, and Y275's I will never see me using the 300's, 295s or the 290. not for this bike anyway.
