  • Ok I'm confused.. do i have an Xs1100f?or sf?

I can't find out what i have. Is it an F or an SF

    I have a 1979 Xs 1100 special.

Can anybody explain the differences to me?

And has anybody noticed the values on NADA? going up to 6k right now.

the S in the F is Special. The F being just the Standard. Lots of visual differences such as tank size, the Special 'leading' front forks(and two different manufacturer for both models), rear wheel size, ect., ect. Only thing REALLY common between the two is engine/drivetrain and front wheel size. Even handlebars between the two were configured differently.

No, three in 80-81. Ignore NADA, just two different ones in 79. Not even gonna look, but I'm afraid 6K is serious 'blue-sky' unless TOTTALLY original and substantually under 20K original miles.....IMHO.

Check your vin number (check both the steering neck vin and the engine vin) and look at this page. It will tell you what you have.

Not likely. It had better be nearly perfect.

This is less than I thought

XS1100S IS the special as far as they know. A quick tutorial is E='78, F=79, G=80, H=81 for year. No other marks, a Standard, S is for Special, and in '80, 81 L is for Midnight Special. So your '79 SF is a Special, and can also be listed just as an SF. I have an LH in the garage, a 1980 Midnight special.
Hope this cleans out some of the mud!
Oh, and I'm asking $4,500 on craigs list for my F, but it DID score well at Quail this year.

XS1100 SF Bob Jones worked on it!

                        Ummm ... Ray,

An LH would be a 1981 Midnight Special ...

An LG would be a 1980 Midnight Special (like the one listed in your signature).
