  • xj1100 Speedometer

Do you know if a 79 xs1100 will fit a 82 xj1100? I would like to replace my 85 mph for one that goes to 160.

    speedo

I'm going out on a limb here.I would say as long as the cable screws into the back of it it will work.As far as it being accurate ,that would depend on the tire size, gear in the wheel etc.I too would like a 160 mph speedometer, maybe a resident guru could be more specific.

Thanks 454. If I put it on I will let you know how it works. Today I have to go get my boat ready for next weekend. I have a Cobalt with a 454.

The XS speedo will not fit the XJ. To get a 160 mph on the XJ, you need to:

Find a good XS 160 face plate
Expand the size of the odometer window
        Remove the XJ speedo
        Swap face plates
Send the speedo in to be calibrated to the new face plate (Around $50.00)
Put the modified speedo back on your XJ.

Dean Koehler and myself have done this swap, Dean did it first and posted the story to this list. We both used a shop in Portland, OR for re-calibrating services. Result is a speedo that looks factory installed but has the 160 mph face plate.
