Or ...
If you want a high-quality upgraded replacement, you could opt for one of Geezer's reg/rect units.
Assuming all other electrical components on the bike are up to par, his unit will give you much better charging just off idle/at lower RPM's.
You can find them here:

+1 on Geezers units! had one in a '79 I sold a few years ago, and it was working great! If I have ANY problems with the one in my bikes, I'll be getting another one from him.Ray Matteis

so it looks like the connecter in the main harness has gotten very hot and melted.so more wiring work.i hate wiring.read all the other posts. the xj has 2 black and 2 red wires.does it matter which one gets used.when you want something bad enough, don't let anything stand in your way, and don't take "no" for an answer. Graybird,
The Red and Black wire pairs on the XJ1100 Rectifier are identical.
Yamaha used four wires to handle the extra power from the XJ11 alternator instead two thick wires. Since the connector on your XS11 is already burned, now would be a great time to add two more terminals to the harness for the extra wires, or splice the pairs together and go up one terminal size.
