  • Bought an XS1100 and within a week it crapped out! Help!

    Hello Fellow Riders,

I have a problem with my bike that I hope you guys can help with.

I bought a 79 XS1100 Special, it is super clean, paint it excellent, low miles, runs great (when it runs) couldn't have better stats.

Then it happens, the thing wont start! Turn the key and no lights come on, I took a multimeter to the fuse panel and I have power at the main fuse (far left) but none at the other three! Any ideas on what could be the issue?

Here are some pics of the bike for ya!

    Welcome to the site!

You should read the posts in the repair section on electrical troubleshooting.
There is a lot of detailed information there.

A quick check and perhaps fix would be to clean (using contact cleaner like deoxit) the 3 wire connection from the ignition switch.
A wiring diagram will become your friend.
Do some reading and further testing.
If you provide more details on what you find in your checking, the folks here will get you going again.

Very nice SF! sounds like you have electrical connection issues. Par for the XS course.

Probably just a poor connection at the fuse panel. That old glass tube panel needs to be ditched and upgraded to a spade type panel. That will most likely solve the entire problem.

FIXED! Thanks for the tips! It was a loose connection at the fuse panel!

              Hi, Aaron -

TC (TopCat, the Admin.) provides high-quality replacement fuse blocks for our XS11's, and they use spade type fuses ...

              Have a look at this:

              Replacing the Fusebox

Scroll down the page about half-way, and you will find TC's portion of the post.

              Beautiful bike, by the way!

              WELCOME to the site!
