    Hey guys,

I recently bought a carb bank from a 79. I know it will fit my 81sh but will it require rejetting to perform well on a stock 81? It does have a k&n drop in filter.

I purchased this set intending to run it on my bike when the setup is stock. I already have a dynojet kit for the 81 carbs (came with the bike) so I'd like to set them up for aftermarket exhaust and pod filters (so I can simply swap parts and hit the road when the itch hits). I have k&n pods, Jardine spaghetti, and a Mac 4-2 that I plan on switching to from time to time.

    Thanks,

    Ed

    Ed,
The carbs will fit and work as is. Just keep in mind, EVERY TIME you remove and replace the carbs, you WILL have to re-sync them. Just part of the deal, so spend the $1XX and get a set of gauges and a "remote" tank. Makes the job a LOT easier.

Cool, thanks Ray. I managed to get a used sync tool and stop-adjuster near me for cheap. I have yet to use it though. I'll still need to buy or make an aux fuel tank. I think I have some plastic inline fuel petcocks around here somewhere...

I also have another carb set from an 80 that I bought on eBay. It's so dirty that the throttle will not move and the slides are all stuck. I've had it wet with pb-blaster/ wd-40 for a week now and there is no progress. Should I just keep spraying it down until something gives? Boil it? Hit it with a pressure washer? I'd really like to get it working.

If you can remove the diaphragms then spray with carb cleaner (Best) or brake cleaner. It breaks through the junk a lot faster. pb-blaster breaks down rust and wd-40 repels water. Neither is good at removing the varnish build up.

The other option is a 50/50 mix of ATF (automatic trans fluid) and Acitone. Works great on oxidation, aluminum and steel. I would pull the covers and see if the slides can be pried up, though.

If they've been sitting out exposed to weather with minor rust, first drop that whole mess in a pan of EvapoRust over-nite(won't attack anything but rust), then dis-assemble removing bowls, ect........then drop the mess into a pan of original REAL pinesol, followed again in half and half mixture with water. Then water wash and compressed air thru ALL passages(eye-protection), along with a can of Berrymans carb spray cleaner.
Advice not to pull and pry on ANYTHING till that's done.

Unfortunatley, the slides are quite stuck. If the evaporust won't hurt the rubber on the slides, I think it's my best bet. Where can I buy evaporust, home depot?
