Ok, So I redid the pick up wires and the bike is still stalling at idle. I need to change 2 shims (#4 intake, #3 exhaust). Then I plan on cleaning the carbs, and synching them.

    For now I have quick question;

The bolt/screw that holds my right hand controls on fell out along with the odd shaped washer that holds the throttle cable straight. Anyone know what size the longer screw is? I can't find it listed on my usual fische.

IIRC 5mm X 65mm, or very close to that length.

Great thank you! That gets me close enough to pull up in front of my local Tru-Value and take screws out to my bike and find what fits.

Looks like it's 5mmx60mm in case anyone searches in the future.

Now, next question. My bike is still stalling at red lights, I'm thinking it could be a vacuum leak. I also think it won't hurt to replace hose from 1978. Does anyone know the size and material of hose I need for:

          1) Vacuum Advance
          2) Petcock Vacuum
          3) Airbox to Carbs
          4) Breather

I think that's it. After I put new lines on I'll do a carb synch and hopefully be done with it.

If you still have the large block off caps on the intake, replace those FIRST! IF you can spin it with your fingers, it's leaking! That has been my #1 leak.
The #2 carb to advance is a 5/32, IIRC.
The carb boot to petcock is a 7/32
The carb "T" to airbox is a 1/4" tygon or thin fuel hose, as it's just a vent.
The breather is the same thing, a vent, and is NOT part of the problem.

Mikes XS' only offers the plugs for 80-81, can anyone confirm if this is true?

                  Hey Alaskey,

I don't know why they say only 80-81.

The blind plug part number for both the 79F as well as the 82 Xj is the same:

                  16G-13569-00-00, Plug, Blind

When I did a google search for the OEM # they listed: 1J7-13569-00

Several sites said that the 1J7 # was changed to the 16G.

SO...pretty sure it's the same plug and will work on any year XS11.

Great, went a different route and hit up O'Reily Auto, they had the hose and caps and it was $7. So, ran the new vacuum lines and synched the carbs. NO MORE STALLING!!!!!

Is this about right or should I spend more time working on it, also 4 is jumping a lot more than the rest, anyone have thoughts?

It looks like the line restrictor's on the guages were either not installed or installed on the wrong end of the lines. Way too much jumping around on the morgan tubes to get a correct reading. JAT

Line restrictions buffer the pulses to the unit keeping the columns steady. They come with the unit. You have to cut the lines to install. Procedures is outlined in instruction manual for the guage.

Should be able to get the columns closer to same height. Takes a little practice. Keep a fan in front of the engine while tuning.

Yeah. A quick google showed that those "funny metal
Bits" I pulled out of the lines were actually the line restricters. Oh well, it's closer to synched and not stalling. I'll do it again next time I have the tank off.

Well, she is running like a champ now.

When I hit 80mph the front wheel is shaking in and out. It's hard to explain, but the wheel is moving towards me and then back ahead of the bike. It's quite a jarring development. This is a new issue, I honestly can't remember if I've gotten it this fast since I put new tires on. I will start with removing and installing the front wheel, any other ideas?

Also, my instrument gauges foam is toast, any tips for replacing?

It sounds like your front tire is not seated correctly. Once you look closely at it you can see a very small line on the tire rubber itself that is to line up with the rim. If the space between the rim and line on the tire are not equally spaced completely around the tire, it will give you this problem. A separated tire will also give you this type of issue, but as it is nearly new that is low on the scale of probability.
Your balance should also be out by a mile in either situation.
