  • Needle seats won't come out

I cleaned my carbs recently and I was able to get carbs 1 and 4 ' s out but the middle 2 were completely stuck, I soaked them in pb blaster for a few hours almost crushed one grabbing it with vice grips. They rocked back and forth a little but I just couldn't get them out. So I reassembled them and they ran strong for about 4000 miles. I a can of seafoam through the bike this week and now I think the needle seats are leaking because the bike runs very rich even at 1 turn out on the idle mix screws. I have a feeling the seafoam dissolved some gunk or the remaining seal around that needle seat. I'm going to tear the carbs apart this weekend again and try to get them out. Any tips on removing them? I'm out of ideas.

Just buy some new ones. Sometimes there's no way around just destroying them. BTDT

The rubber on the O-rings is hard and cracked and fuel is leaking past them. One of the reasons I prefer the older carbs.

Rather than rocking them, try to "unscrew" the seat. I know it's pressed in, but twisting as you pull it out should help. Last resort, air pressure! Get a blow gun hooked up to 125psi, and put it into the fuel inlet of the carb. DO MAKE SURE you have something to catch the seat! and no, a brown paper bag probably will NOT work....
If the air just flows out, put in a bit of paper as a plug. But DO BE CAREFUL!! The seat CAN cause serious bodily damage when it lets go!

That's what I'm thinking, I'll just order some. Ill drill a hole through the old ones perpendicular to the needle hole, put a long bar through the hole and twist it. I already have the o rings.

....careful, there is a tube shaped metal filter screen behind there.

They're notched... how are you gonna twist them out?

The emultion tube is the one with the notch, not the seat.

I use a small set of channel locks that i can get on it and twist and rock back an forth. Not too worried about marring the outside, just have to make sure i don't deform it and get the inside oval shaped.

Took two of us(3Phase) to get mine out of the Venturers carbs a couple yrs. back. One of us holding carb bank down and other LIGHTLY snapping a pair of needle nose vice grips vertically on seat and pulling up while rocking carefully back and forth. Trying to rotate them will just really scun up the outside of them. Persistance is key, took some thirty min. for two of us to remove them without damaging anything in order to replace the o-rings.
