my tire questions

I hate it when my questions or posts get buried then no one sees or responds...
So I have 2 questions...first what is the consensus on this tire???

I have no experience with the Michelin Pilots, so I can't help you there.

But, regarding the 130/70-17 ...

Even though it may fit, the lower aspect-ratio (a lower-profile tire) means that it will most definitely have a lower load rating than a 130/90-17.

To me, that would be a safety issue, and I don't think I would risk it.

I'm sure others will chime in with more info ...

......that short, may not set on sidestand, and add an even lower gear ratio to rear wheel.
BTW, wouldn't be too concerned with load ratings....to a point.
Those load ratings correspond to the speed rating, as far a legal jargin.
In other words, the load max. rating is also at the rated max. speed.....consistant..

The load rating on a 130/70-17 will be almost 100 lbs less than the OEM size and two inches smaller in diameter, or a inch smaller than even the Special 130/90-16...

I've never used a Michelin but JW is impressed with the Commander. Unfortunately that tire isn't in your size either.

Give the Pilot a shot, nothing else seems to have any longevity. Give us a report buddy.

What have you got to lose other than another stinkin' tire.

Well I did get approved to return the Dunflop to Motorcycle Superstore...but it would be shipped at my expense and since I did unwrap it ...well I think I'm just gonna use this Dunflop and then the next round go to a Michelin...My riding is or has been curtailed quite a bit due to my hand ailments so at the rate i am riding now the Dunflop will last me 2 years

Honestly Ben, 2 years is about as long as you want to keep a tire on a bike. I just took off a Shinko that had been on the front of my bike nearly 3 years and it had some pretty serious dry rot cracks.

I think I ran that one too long.

I have not tried Michelin on the XS, but that's ALL I run on the BMW. They ARE the radial Pilot 3, and I get about 12K out of a pair. I like the dual compound, harder rubber on the center, and softer sidewalls.
I'll have to look at the other options later, but I really don't put that many miles on the XS any more..... Trying to "save" it so I can bring it back cosmetically.

Correct. The bit softer compounds of 10+yrs.ago, previously used on sides is now used in center section with even softer side compounds. Least that's what I was told by a long time purchasing person at a local dealership a few yrs. back. Kinda explains half the mileage numbers that USED to be had on tires.
I remember back in early, early 80's(82) when the Elite2 came out. Dunlop warrenteed them for 10,000mi. of tread life.. Of course, that was dropped for obvious reasons the next year. Either way, very common for my Venturer to run an E-2 for 12,000mi. on rear.............and as you could imagine, was way more ham-fisted on the throttle then than now.
Large majority of those miles were LD rides two-up.
Manufacturers having a 'captive' audience and justified as an adhesion safety issue.........it is what it is now.
