  • quick release seat mod worth it?

I'm keen to do the quick release seat mod but reading the forums it seems like it doesn't work too well for a lot of people. seems like most can't get enough clamping power and they come loose once you sit on the seat. Can anyone who has done it chime in and let me know if it worked for you?

I'll chime-in . . . I did it, and it works great. Only recommendation I have is to tack-weld the square nut piece of aluminum you tapped to the quick release bolt. That way you cannot completely unscrew it.

ok great, i just picked up 2 bolts at the bike shop across the street for $4 each. I guess working in downtown Toronto has some advantages.

Just make sure you measure twice before you cut! You don't want them too long, nor too short. Using the bike next to you would be best. I did it blind, and it worked in my favor.

thanks for the tip. right now i'm just scratching my head trying to figure out what im going to use for the little square pieces I have to cut. I don't really have any scrap steel or aluminium laying around.

Do you have any old computers or anything with metal in it? You could goto an Ace and look for square nuts. Or, some hardware store may have aluminum. I have a shop here full of it.

im sure i can dig something up. didn't think of square nuts, that would be perfect. wouldn't even have to drill holes or cut threads
