  • New XJ1100

I just picked up an XJ1100 with 3600 miles. It has a few of the normal issues of a bike that has sat for 11 years, the registration expired in 04.
Going to clean this up for my wife (and trade hers to my daughter). The PO got this bike from is dad. He was going to cut it up and make a bobber. My wife whispered to me "get the bike don't let it get cut up" So now I have another XJ .

I will take better pictures tomorrow.

      So True!

Now I have Three XJ to Complete. Going to be doing all three at the same time. Because I never got my wife's XJ finished, she put a clam on this one. She Likes the fact that it has so few miles.

seems strange that the seat would be damaged after only 3600miles, maybe the picture is just misleading . . .

The seat is damaged. It split on the seam but the vinyl is soft an pliable unlike the other 30 year old XJ seats that I have.

The gauges and controls all look like they have never seen the light of day. Nothing faded or rubbed off. The tank had a large dent in it (bargaining chip) form being moved around in the garage. I have not checked to see if the speedometer cable is still in place. Could the PO replaced the gauges 3600 miles ago possibly. I know you never should trust the seller but he did disclose all the damage in the add and He gave me a good explanation as to why the bike sat for so long. His parents went through a nasty divorce (the bike was his dads) his mom wanted to get back at her husband and had a relative try and steal the bike. After a failed attempt (using a screwdriver in the ignition) the owner slashed the tires to make it harder to steal. And it has been sitting in the garage ever sense. His dad bought it from the dealer in 85 "brand new". So because it never was put in the sons name I am officially the second owner.

He based his asking price on the mileage ($2000 and he admitted it was a pipe dream). I based my offer on the current condition ($800 and offered cash). We agreed on trading for a bike that I don't ride much + $200 (I paid $400 for that bike) and we were both happy with the deal.

Yeah, but in Can'taffordya, you CAN use the fact that the speedo does NOT show speed above 85MPH to keep your speeding fine down! Someone had an attorney that beat a ticket because 85 was the max the speedo on the vehicle would show. If that's all it shows, how can you know your doing 110MPH??? Hey, it worked!
