    All good advice on the compression test, that's how I check out a 'unknown' motor. One more piece of advice; getting low readings on some/all cylinders doesn't always mean it's bad. Check the valve clearances, too tight valves can lower compression a lot. I've seen compression jump from 60 PSI to 160 with just a valve adjustment.
