  • crankcase breather filter smoke?

    Hello,
I am wondering if anyone can tell me what to do about smoke that comes out of my crankcase breather filter? It is really annoying and evertime I ride my bike I stink like exhaust. I have 2 seperate books on the bike and nothing tells me about it. Please let me know, thanks,
    Brian

Originally, the breather hose connected to the upper half of the airbox - no filter, no nasty smells. I take it you've got individual filters?

I've had the bike for about 6 yrs now, and when I bought it, the previous owner had replaced the air filter box with individual K&N air filters on the carbs and another smaller one on top of the crankcase breather line mounted under the gas tank. It hasn't always done that, like now. After I get it warmed up, after a few minutes, I am getting a small amount of exhaust out of the filter. I was told I could have possible blow back through my valve seals. I don't know. I didn't want to go rebuild the whole engine if it isn't needed. Do you have suggestions, info maybe?

        Blow By

Crainmain, you could try adding 1/2 a can of STP Engine oil treatment (viscosity index improver). Over the years I have found that this will greatly reduce engine blow by on high mileage engines. The blow by is caused because excessive amounts of blow by (compression/combustion) is leaking down past the rings/pistons/cylinders.
