  • Oil in #2 Exhaust

Well the engine is running again. However, there is smoke coming out of the #1/#2 exhaust. Dirty oil leaked out of the coupling between the pipe and muffler after a while. Bad news.

I pulled the plugs and #2 is fouled with oil (black). So I checked compression and it's at 142 psi which is in specs and the same as the others.

I removed the pipes and a small amount existed in the exhaust from #2 cylinder. Others are clean.

I replaced the valve seals when I put the engine back together. Could one be blown? Since the oil exists in the cylinder, could it be on the intake side?

The compression rules out rings. Also #2 is beside the central cam chain shaft and the head gasket could be leaking there. However the compression rules that out as well.

When the original leak occurred I noticed the fouled plug but decided it was from an over abundance of fuel in the system from the stuck floats.

So any suggestions? Should I maybe run the system longer and hope that it "cleans out"? Or maybe pull the intake and look for oil around the valve? I would hate to have to pull the cylinders again.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Having just replaced the valve seals, I'd question whether one was improperly installed. A final check would be a leak-down test, but ur compression test shows that may not be necessary. I'd clean the oil out of the pipe, etc., and run it till u no-longer see smoke.

Yes, I would. There was raw fuel in that pipe due to your flooding carb, let all of that blow out of there and I bet it will clear up.

I would run it awhile and see what happens as you will be no worse off than you are now. If it does not clear then prepare for some valve seal work (again) and yes, maybe even ring work. A leak down test will help you pinpoint the problem whereas just a compression test will not.

          Fuel in oil

Verify that there is no fuel in the engine oil from the previous fuel leak.

Just because you have good compression does not eliminate a bad or stuck oil control ring. Extra oil getting pass the oil ring could actually raise compression.

Sorry about the late response. The oil seemed OK but I changed it anyway just in case.
