CMIIW but I beleive the key needs to be inserted and turned? to get the tumblers to recede so the cylinder will slide in the bore . . . I think1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors)
1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Yes. Key in. Don Glardon's tip either didn't make that clear, or I skimmed right over it. I either got it, or maybe it's 180 out. Lost time looking for tiny spring. Fortunately, my bride found it.Marty (in Mississippi)

Good deal Marty.
I was able to manipulate the tumblers on my second helmet lock so my ignition key works all locks now.1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors)
