    re: 79 standard tank

    1. I took apart petcocks to examine. Need to replace the o-ring that goes between petcock and tank. Anyone have a part#? Been searching Google to no avail. Can I go to autoparts store and buy an o-ring(fuel capable)?

    2. The one petcock has a metal o-ring behind the cover plate. Otherside does not. I don't know history of tank/petcocks. Are both sides supposed to have the metal o-ring or no metal o-ring at all? Looks like a spacer..????

    Thanks!

Yes, you can match up the O-ring, make sure to polish the seat so it seals properly. You need that metal wave washer behind the chrome plate, that holds the selector mechanism tight up against the 4 hole rubber gasket. Both sides are supposed to have it. There is a good tutorial on rebuilding these vacuum fuel taps, let's see if I can find it...

Here, these fuel taps are not identical to our XS11, but the rebuilding principal is the same...

        Rebuild kit

        Rob,

You may want to consider rebuild kits for your petcocks. Georgefix is an Ebay seller many of us have used.

2X Yamaha XS1100 Petcock Rebuild Kits

For that price, you get 2 kits, one for each petcock.

          Wave washer

P.S. As for the "wave washer" that fits behind the chrome cover plate ...

I don't know of another source for it, but you could try Andreas here on the site. You can PM him here:

Hammer- using Phil's link, the Yammy number for the "gasket" in-between petcock tower and tank is: 1J7-24512-00-00

            The "wave washer" is: 1J7-24518-00-00

                Ian,
That gasket has the bars. Mine is just the oval. Trying to find the oval and the wave washer. Will try Andreas....but I think he's on a fishing trip til 2/15.

If yours doesn't have the bars, it's likely going to be round. Get one locally.

Hmm. I was not aware of any other variety of gasket besides the one with bars, and I have A LOT of XS bikes. Maybe your's is not stock. If it's the gasket that goes between the petcock and tank, the part number I supplied is the proper gasket. More than likely a stretched-out round gasket.

                      Yes ...

Rob, if you have the stock XS11 Standard petcocks, then that petcock-to-tank gasket should have those crossbars (just like the one in the Rebuild Kit link above).

Re the "wave washer" ... every parts house/supplier I looked at showed it as obsolete/not available.

So, again, check with Andreas ...

It uses a round packing (o'ring).

Everybody STOP for a second and listen to Marty. He obviously picked up on the fact that Hammer has Special petcocks on his Standard.
