Take a look at this, folks. The pix are very poor but you can get a good idea of how bad this bike is. But...it sold for the equivalent of $700.

I did place a much lower bid on it and I then asked the seller for some clear pix. He said no! Needless to say, I didn't bid again.

You XSives in the USA can buy working, running bikes for that sort of money, eh?

From the listings we all see it kind of depends on the buyer. Their expertise, their plan and their wallet. £462 is a bit high (from what we see in the pics) but not really all that unreasonable. Hard to see from the pics; bike looks like it was parked in salty environment and it said somewhere East Lothian. Your GB£ sure holding up better than € lately. Likely not a € buyer this month??

So while yes, some are lucky to stumble into a $700 drivable machine the more likely scenario as we know is 'needs work'. From little to lots. $500-$700 with all the parts there and original wiring, well, that ain't bad in my view. That is the crap shoot, what buyer is actually getting. My $450 project 11E still looks crappy but it is a runner. I don't care how it looks and almost never wash it. Some like pretty and running, some folks go ugly and mostly, then the high speed long distance guys like trbig & ba80, then guys like Mack are amazing with the restoration. The XS11 he does are just beautiful. Value of bike is how we see the outcome of our new ride. Title plays into it too. Some nice fixable bikes have no title which lessens there value in some locations.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it .....................

Runner is an understatement! No new XS1100 ever ran or handled that well. Ya, I guess you could call it a sleeper. A runner is what it really is!

Don't cry too much James; while bikes over there do appear to sell for more, you do have one somewhat large advantage over us. Yamaha sold essentially the same bike there throughout production, so you don't have the myriad US parts combinations we can be faced with; different tanks, seats, brakes, forks, sidecovers, gauges and many of the small parts that go with these. And your used and even some of the abused bikes tend to still have most of the OEM parts left on them (other than the exhausts, which rotted off on both sides of the pond). Tracking down/buying some of the smaller bits can add considerably to the price of a restoration.

Now, I don't know that I would have given $700 sight unseen for the listed bike, but I might have after a personal examination. Looked remarkably complete (other than the exhaust) and that is worth something here...

yes, it's all a question of perspective......like interest rates.....great when they're high, if you're saving and bad when they're high, if you're borrowing.

Prices, even on bad ones, are going up, I'd say.

yes, I'd have paid that price for a runner but that bike has sat for 10 years with the carbs off. My bet is that valves and bores are rusted badly. Especially when the bike has been kept in a sectional concrete garage.
