    Was just wondering if one of the modifications to the Ero XS was a gearing change in either the tranny or the final drive to accommodate the higher cruising speeds. Anyone?

    Hmm. As-far as I know, I believe the bikes internals were all the same across the board. When you refer to higher cruiser speeds, are u referring to the autobahn? Because Europe sorta mirrors our speed limits. There was only a 13-year period in the US were the Feds did not allow speeds higher than 55 (before I was born). Across the pond in James's homeland, speed has been 70 mph since mid-60's, with the exception of the London City changing to 20 mph not too long ago.

      Unless someone threw a 750/850 final drive on?

        I have not heard of the recent speed limit change to 20 MPH. What does it apply to? If you mean the City of London it is only a Square mile and traffic probably does not move that fast most days.

          Yeah, we went overllast year for work, and the City changed to 20 mph. Mmhmm, not many know London is the city.

            The gearing is the same in the European models. The rear wheels are larger than those on many US versions though and this does make a difference.

            Re London....the City of London, aka The Square Mile, really isn't London as perceived by everyone here. The urban sprawl of 'London' encompasses lots of different areas and is very big...but still referred to as London. The city of London Square Mile is a bit of an anachronism and is by no means the modern definition of 'London'. London just goes on and on...

              I thought something would be different. Have you hooked up with "duds" over there for a ride? He's with the RAF and has been away alot but he has several bikes, ones an xs special.

                Yes, but as it turns out, it makes a very small difference.

                  Yes only small. 17" instead of 16"? So, as a percentage, not much but there all the same, I suppose.

                    I'm a bit of a loner on bikes when it comes to actually riding them and have always gone out on my own and at my own pace and stopping when I want etc. Just me and the bike, if you see what I mean. A motorised hermit.

                      I hear

                      you, 90% of my riding is alone. I don't prefer it that way, but I ride when I want and don't wait for someone elses schedule to free up time. Sometimes when I can't sleep I'll walk out to my shop and do some work, other times I just roll up the door and pick a bike and throw a leg over and ride someplace to watch the bigger/closer stars and planets vanish into the morning light. It's always been my favourite time of day. maybe from duck hunting with my dad or something but I find the sounds and smells of the new day envigorating. Riding at that time is dangerous here though, as it is the same time the larger animals come out of the deep bush and head to water, so you have to be very alert, and of course our headlights aren't made for any side elimination so I always travel fairly slow. But since traffic flow isn't an issue at that time of day, who cares.

                        Isle of mann

                        Duds and I were going to hook up and do the isle of mann 10 days. He was going to make the arrangements and we could never co-ord our timings availability. Between his duty and my kids, we just keep striking out. Still, it's on my bucket list. If I do make it over to this event, I'll spare a day and look you up and check out your ride., shake your hand for the left wheel bearings I've used to dated (four in total so far).
