  • Driver Backrest

Reading 650Mark's post regarding his passenger backrest for sale (also can be used for driver), I've been looking for a small backrest that I could use with stock seat that does not look crazy. Just a small pad that sticks up to rest the smole of your back on during long rides. I know they make 'em for HD's, anybody seen them for our bike's? Not really sure where it would mount though. Not much room.

In the day, the backrest that will work for the driver and passenger mounted in a tube on the rack. two bolts or pull pins and you slide the rest in or out. Not sure what is available, but you could probably build something.....
Heck, once I get over this creeping crud, I could probably put something together. I would use stainless so it looks good, and will not rust. Problem is, it would probably be about $200 for me to build and ship it!
check with andreas, and see if he has that type of rack. That would be a starting point, and then it's just the backrest.
    My $0.02..

Unfortunately, the slide-in backrest like used on the Venturer's style carrier rack won't slide out far enough for rider. It has to slide in carrier rack tubes far enough(approx. 3") in order for the thumb wheels to hold rack in place.

        Ian:

You might be discouraged by the reports of the other members, but if you still want to see the rack/backrest, I have an extra one, although it needs some loving to make it really nice.

I am probably only 45 minutes away if you wanted to come and see one on a SF.

I haven't mounted it yet to see how close it comes to the driver... but it's no problem to throw it on now that I'm finished with the transmission fix.

Hey Mike- Thanks for the offer. In the Summer, I ride the bike naked with no screen, trunk, rack, etc. So, the "pillion" pad would have to be something mounted to the frame. I saw a guy on eBay make one out of a headrest. I don't want to take away the look of the bike, so it may not work.

I use the rack/rest to hold my Vetter trunk, and the backrest is always slid forward for me. If I want to have a pillion on there, I have to remove the rest entirely, since the trunk has a pad on the front of it for that purpose. Works great for a helmet rack too!

I bought one several years ago from these guys to put on my Honda Magna after I had back surgery and needed the support for a bit. A bracket bolts onto the seat pan and comes through the foam seat. The backrest bolts onto the bracket so it's also removeable and would fold forward for passengers. Not sure if they have one for an XS1100, but should be able to get one. I had them make one special for my Magna.

.....that is so wrong, as I'd buy that exact one pictured if you or someone here could locate the source.

With the brain trust we have in our members, this should be an easy challenge.

Could start with an office chair backrest....

......cept for the hole thru seat retainer........I'd just opt for the straps that go around and under seat like the ATV seat covers alot of us use here.

Recieved a return e-mail today. Still makes them, but only has pieces to complete one at this time due to cold, which has limited painting pieces for assembly.........what, no heated indoor man-cave?

Anyways, apparently still makes them, and are $149 and some change+shipping.
