I'm of no help on the topic of fairings and factory color options, but we all want to see some pics!

By '81, Vetter was the 'official' fairing supplier to Yamaha after the Pacifico factory burned down. Purpose-built for Yamaha, these differed slightly from the 'regular' Vetter offerings. Color on the '81H was Indigo Blue with a silver tank accent and gold reflective striping.

But in those days, many dealers would be happy to fit whatever aftermarket bits a customer wanted, including a color change as long as you wrote the check...

This bike has been here before, title says it's Blue/Maroon and Burgundy, weird combo. The title says 37K at the point the P.O. bought it, now it reads 89K. These pics were from when it's 79 engine was running.
Could it have been purchased while Yamaha was still looking for replacement parts after Pacifico went down ?

That's not a Venturer fairing, it's a Windjammer V, and the H came with different bags. Those are all after market but a nice setup.

I have a fairing just like it on my SG. I would like to get a Vetter bag and trunk setup like that.

That's a Pacifico fairing, they were on the 78 - 79. The bags could be anything.

Here's what the Venturer looks like....

Your '79 has the full 'touring package' as available from Yamaha (including the rare seat). The fairing/bags were made by Pacifico and these were either dealer or owner installed; they were not installed at the factory. After Pacifico was unable to furnish these, to my knowledge Yamaha didn't have a 'factory' fairing option until the '81H, but some aftermarket manufacturers did (for an additional fee) offer theirs painted in a 'factory' color, sometimes even with factory-style graphics.

Yours was very likely crashed at some point, and the OEM bits replaced with a Vetter package which was probably cheaper. Yamaha never sold a 'standard' model XS11 with the round headlight either, so that's yet another 'mark' of an aftermarket install.

That seat does look comfy done. I see you have the same shoe marks on your left turnout muffler that I have.

Just to confirm what CrazySteve has stated, The 81Venturer was the ONLY full dresser that was FACTORY produced............ALL earlier year models that were dressed out tourers were either dealer or owner installed.

Vetter did the 80-81 fairings according to Yamaha specifications, and are a different mold than the Windjammer fairings. The sidecases, even though YAMAHA is molded into the plastic on inside of cases, were after-market contracted to Yamaha's specifications also, but not by Vetter.

Vetter sidecases and tail trunks were specific to Craig Vetter's design only.
